A little about TenNai....
Tenshi Nanka Ja Nai (I'm Not an Angel) also known as TenNai is one of Yazawa Ai's (Paradise Kiss, Gojinko Monogatari, Nana) earlier works. The story centers around a high school student, Saejima Midori and her experiences of being the vice-president in the school council. She has secretly harbored a crush for Sudou Akira (who becomes the president of the council) ever since she saw him rescue a small kitten, and now that she's working with him in the council, their romance begins to bloom.
Midori is called 'the angel' of the class because of her cheerful disposition, and the fact that she always tries to make people feel better. For this reason she was nominated to run for class office. She is a talented artist, and mostly likes to draw caracatures of other people (ie: Sudousarus and Takagawa Man), and even pokes fun of her embarassing moments (like accidentally showing the student body her red checkered underwear).
Midori and Akira begin dating, but like any other shoujo manga, there are always conflicts within their relationship. Akira used to date another woman -- a teacher at their school, and one of Midori's favorite teacher's at that. At first she didn't seem to mind 'too' much because sensei's boyfriend came back to town, but now that he's left...Akira is conforting Hiroko again. Also there is Midori's friend Ken, who has always had a crush on her, and where that will lead to I'm not certain....Of course like any other good series, I'm sure the heroine and her love will reunite, but to what cost to others, and to the angst of the audience?
This manga spans eight volumes, and even though I've only read three volumes so far, it truly is a favorite of mine, the characters and their situations are so lovable, one can't help but enjoy it. And for other Yazawa Ai fans out there, you may have recognized Akira and Midori from the flea market scene in Gojinko Monogatari, when Midori buys the backpack from Mikako ^_^ Another noted cross-over within the two series is Midori's old friend from middle school is Nakagawa Ken, who Tsutomu from Gojinko is always mistaken for.
